Research Mentor: John A. Chandy and Laurent Michel

Computer systems are often analyzed at the software level for security vulnerabilities. Often, vulnerabilities present themselves at the system level encompassing both hardware and software issues. A significant challenge is how to assess a system and give metrics as to its security status. These systems may be assessed using white box or black box analysis. This research is partly supported by a grant from Comcast Corp.

Components for Student Participation

Students will investigate multiple approaches for hardware as- sessment and auditing starting with simple penetration testing and then progressing to more sophisticated hardware attacks. They will learn and develop new computer security defense and attack tools.
